Rafael Saldarriaga

Frutero II
Oil on canvas, 43 x 43 inches

Rafael Saldarriaga was born in Medellin, Columbia in 1955.  He arrived in the United States in 1993. After living in New Mexico and Hawaii he established his residency in New York City.

Rafael studied at Live de Zulateqi’s Art Academy and graduated from the School of Architecture and Urban Design at Pontificia Bolivariana University in Columbia.  In 1984 he became a full time artist.

Mr. Saldarriaga continues his exploration of the themes of flowers and fruit consistently seen in his work of the last several years.  The paintings are a magnificent show of colors that present themselves with their own texture and aroma.

The paintings generously show Mr. Saldarriaga’s ability to create a joyous vision with his tropical sensibility.  The paintings combine vibrant colors yet show profound sensitivity.  His surprising strokes capture details of reality, creating a universe full of passion and strength.

Mr. Saldarriaga’s paintings are in many private and public collections in the United States and Europe.
