George Nemethy

Luminous Morning
Oil on canvas on board, 4 x 4 inches

The Nemethy family presently consists of six artists, all pupils of their late father.  An American tradition well groomed from the respect and family teaching of a marine painter of high regard.

Kristina Augustine Nemethy and Georgina Nemethy Szalay are twin sisters born in Germany in 1950.  They arrived with their family in the United States at the age of one, growing up in Newburgh, New York on the Hudson River with their siblings Julien, Albert, Jr., George and Veronica.  They all became artists through the inspiration and teachings of their revered father.

George Nemethy, born in 1952 was greatly inspired by the Persian miniatures that he remembers so well in his youth and studied extensively during his travels abroad.

George paints as he travels and travels to paint.  His form is devoted to balance of size and color - creating intimacy and solitude.

Sailors, curators and collectors worldwide have followed him from country to seaport, to beach resorts to isolated islands, all in the hopes of collecting his most recent "colors" on the sea.

His magic in creating the pastel hues shimmering across the waters and divinely embraced by the billows of pastel infused clouds pulled down to the sea as if a shade had been drawn for privacy is what critics refer to when they write of his ability to capture the essence of tranquility.

Today, George's works are rarely found in any depth - our galleries are always grateful for whatever grouping we may have and for whatever time we get with the master himself.
